1. Fenwick Island

If you’re looking for a relaxing and quiet place for getaway, Fenwick Island is the place to go. They might have the best beach in the state so you can enjoy the warm water and the pristine sand! Just a few minutes from the OCMD boardwalk, you can also head north to enjoy family-friendly activities and festivals in Bethany Beach. Also, you can enjoy the restaurants around the island that serve up some of the best seafood that you can find in the state.

2. Rehoboth Beach

If you’re thinking of a great long weekend at the beach, Rehoboth is the obvious change. Here, you can stay at any of charming beach hotels like the Boardwalk Hotel and dine with a water view pretty much wherever you go. You can also have evening strolls at the boardwalk and pick up your favorite junk food summer treats.

3. Bethany Beach

For a more laid back beach town that’s perfect for families with young children. One of the best in the state is the Nature Center but there are always plenty of family-friendly things to do. For girls who want a great weekend getaway, this place is ideal with the several hotel and spa combinations, lots of beach to lay on, and some of the best restaurants. 

4. Dewey Beach

For larger groups, younger couples, or anyone who wants to have a bit of a beach party weekend. You can catch a band at the Bottle & Cork, enjoy happy hour at the Starboard, or share a Wipeout Bucket at Nalu. When you’re here, it is also a must to try the best crabcakes in the world that can be found at Woody’s. You probably wouldn’t want to leave since there’s so much to do here. 

5. Newark, Delaware

As one of Delaware’s larger towns, Newark has plenty to offer. Although this may not be the first thought to pop into your head when thinking of a getaway. For nature lovers who want to go for a stroll, the gorgeous White Clay Creek State Park and the Newark Reservoir are waiting. Find something to suit your tastes no matter what you crave at the many amazing restaurants along Main Street. You have the option to try a tasty Italian meal at Taverna or pig out on enormous burgers from Klondike Kate’s, or if you’re health conscious, eat healthy, locally sourced food at Home Grown Cafe. Choose from plenty of hotels where you can stay-- they’re just a short drive from the center of town and the scenic parks. 

6. Dover

Aside from being Delaware’s Capital, Dover has plenty to offer! If you’re into history, you’d want to check out the First State National Historical Park to discover the history of the state. After learning about history, dine at 33 West Ale House and go to the Green for relaxation after strolling Loockerman Street. While you’re in town, you can also visit the Victrola Museum which is one of the most interesting places you’ll want to visit. 

7. Historic New Castle

The historic New Castle is where you can find many of Delaware’s historic events that have taken place. The Courthouse is the center of the “12 Mile Circle” that helped shape Delaware’s northern border. There is also the historic church on the Green, which is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the state. If you want to tour Fort Delaware, you can also take the short ferry ride to Pea Patch Island. 

8. Bowers Beach

One of the most timeless towns in Delaware, Bowers Beach is a quiet bayside community where you can enjoy a meal at the Bayview Tavern, stop by the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum to see up close the shipwreck and pirate history of the Delaware coast. Moreover, you can also enjoy some top quality, fresh-from-the-bay seafood at JP’s on the Wharf.

9. Lewes

Did you know that Lewes, Delaware is actually one of the state’s best towns for a getaway? When you’re here, you’ll want to stay at the Dogfish Inn-- one of the most unique hotels in the country. You’ll also want to explore Cape Henlopen State Park and stroll the historic downtown and canalfront. Enjoy a ferry ride across the bay to Cape May for a day of dining and shopping!

10. Georgetown

Visit one of the most charming places in Delaware-- Georgetown! The life in this historic town is based around the Circle, where you can find the historic Town Hall and Court. Stay at the Brick Hotel and be able to dine right in the heart of town. In your itinerary, you may also want to include exploring the town for a day and then heading out to see what’s nearby. At Wilson’s General Store, you’ll be able to find the best deli in Delaware, which is located on the outskirts of town. Furthermore, you can also hike nearby Redden State Forest.
